Origin Coffee Trainee (Kenya, Uganda & Tanzania)

Nairobi 23 October 2026 11:59 pm

About the opportunity

Neumann Kaffee Gruppe (NKG) is hiring three Origin Coffee Trainees: one based in Kenya, one in Tanzania, and one in Uganda, to join the NKG East Africa Team.

NKG is the world’s leading green coffee service group, with more than 3,300 employees in 28 countries. The Origin Trainee Program develops the next generation of coffee leaders through hands-on rotations across the coffee value chain, from origin to customer.

The Programme

The 24-month programme combines job rotations, blended learning, mentoring and coaching, corporate training, and special projects. Trainees will gain practical experience in:

  • Procurement & Quality: Sourcing, supplier relations, cupping and grading.
  • Sustainability & Compliance: Traceability, certifications, ESG and EUDR.
  • Trading & Market Analysis: Futures and options, price risk, and supply and demand trends.
  • Logistics & Export Operations: Shipment planning, documentation and customer delivery.
  • Finance & Accounting: Margin and cost analysis, working capital, trade finance flows, P&L computation and capital expenditure.
  • Capstone Project: A real business challenge identified, developed and presented to senior leadership.

What You Will Gain

The programme offers structured career development, meaningful work from day one, international exposure, structured mentorship and coaching, leadership development, and network and industry exposure.

As part of the international exposure, trainees will spend time embedded in an NKG destination-market office abroad. This provides first-hand insight into how roasters and customers evaluate quality, negotiate contracts and plan purchasing.

  • Recent graduate (within 2 years) in Agribusiness, Economics, or Finance; a master’s degree is an added benefit.
  • A maximum of 2 years’ working experience.
  • Strong leadership potential to grow into future leadership roles within NKG’s coffee supply chain and origin operations.
  • Demonstrated integrity and professionalism in prior academic or work settings.
  • Willingness to be based in-country (Kenya, Tanzania, or Uganda) with regional and international travel.
  • Fluency in English. Proficiency in Kiswahili or Luganda is an added advantage. If not proficient, a willingness to learn is a must.

What Will Make You Succeed

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with producers, partners and customers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • A curious, strong learning mindset and a genuine interest in coffee and commodity markets.
  • Adaptability, resilience and readiness to work across cultures and geographies with respect for diverse teams.
