Digital Green

Digital Green began working in Kenya in 2019, introducing its signature community video program to provide farmers with timely and actionable information on pests and diseases. The organization partners with the Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture, KALRO, county extension departments, and other stakeholders to ensure sustainability and scalability. By working closely with coffee, dairy, and horticulture cooperatives, Digital Green helps farmers leverage economies of scale, negotiate better prices, and reduce input costs. This approach improves incomes while strengthening cooperative structures.

Recognizing the potential of cooperatives to boost farmer livelihoods and grow the economy, Digital Green aligns its agricultural digitization work with national priorities. The organization focuses on improving smallholder resilience, building the digital ecosystem, and transforming the agricultural sector. Its projects are active in counties including Meru, Nyeri, Murang’a, Kirinyaga, Nakuru, Uasin Gishu, and Nandi, reaching over 190,000 farmers.

Digital Green also develops AI-powered tools, including FarmerChat, which delivers personalized, climate-smart guidance through text, voice, and image-based interactions. FarmerChat helps farmers make informed decisions despite staffing shortages in extension systems. The platform is available in local languages, free to farmers, and designed to scale, currently serving users in Kenya, India, Ethiopia, Nigeria, and Brazil.

By co-creating with farmers, using their feedback, and integrating expert research and weather data, Digital Green ensures guidance is accurate, relevant, and actionable. Its approach empowers farmers to improve productivity, increase incomes, and build climate-resilient livelihoods. Through technology and partnerships, Digital Green transforms how agricultural support reaches smallholder farmers, enabling real-time, data-driven solutions that strengthen communities and the wider food system.
