New Zealand White

The New Zealand White rabbit originated in America and is widely recommended for crossbreeding with local breeds such as the Kenya White. These rabbits lack melanin, giving them pink eyes, skin, and hair. They are the most popular and commonly bred rabbits in Kenya.

New Zealand White rabbits are purely white with broad heads and large ears. They reach a weaning weight of 1–2 kg and a mature weight of 5–6 kg. Litter sizes range from 8–10 kits, and rabbits reach sexual maturity at 5–6 months.

This breed grows quickly and can attain a slaughter weight of 3 kg within 12–14 weeks, depending on feeding. It is one of the best commercial breeds, producing about 5 kg at full growth. Its all-white coat is highly marketable, and the breed is valued as a dam breed because of its excellent mothering instincts.
