Growing Conditions
Sesame grows well in warm temperatures between 25–35 °C with low to moderate rainfall of 300–800 mm. The crop thrives in well-drained sandy or loamy soils with a pH of 5.5–7.5. Full sunlight is essential for proper flowering and pod development. Excess moisture, especially during pod maturity, increases the risk of disease and seed loss due to shattering.
Growth Cycle
The plant establishes quickly from seed and develops upright stems with narrow leaves. Flowering begins early, followed by pod formation along the stem. Harvesting takes place when pods turn dry but before they split open, requiring careful timing to reduce seed loss.
