Jan Willem Van Casteren

Jan Willem Van Casteren is an agribusiness strategist, market systems specialist, and technology entrepreneur with over 27 years of international experience in agricultural development, inclusive business, and value chain transformation.

He is the Co-Founder and CEO of eProd Solutions Ltd, a Kenya-based AgriTech company delivering an integrated agricultural supply chain management platform operating in more than 20 African countries and connecting approximately 350,000 smallholders across over 30 value chains.

Under his leadership, eProd has evolved into a robust ERP system enabling traceability, climate-smart agriculture management, financial inclusion, ESG reporting, quality-based payment systems, and compliance with international regulations such as the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). The platform integrates with financial institutions, mobile network operators, and global agribusiness partners to strengthen data-driven sourcing relationships.

Prior to founding eProd, he co-founded and led Equator Kenya Ltd, building an inclusive horticultural export enterprise that contracted more than 8,000 smallholders. Earlier, he held senior technical and leadership roles with organizations including UNICEF, International Fertilizer Development Center, DAI, and Adam Smith International, leading large-scale market systems and value chain programs across Africa, Asia, and Latin America.

He holds MSc degrees in Agricultural Economics and Agribusiness from Wageningen University & Research and University of Reading, as well as a BSc in Tropical Agriculture.
