Dr. Patrick Ketiem

Dr. Patrick K. Ketiem is a leading Kenyan agricultural scientist and engineer with over 20 years of experience in mechanization, postharvest management, and climate-smart agriculture. In early 2026, he became the Director General of the Kenya Agricultural and Livestock Research Organisation (KALRO). In this role, he drives innovation to improve farmer livelihoods, enhance food security, and promote sustainable agricultural practices across Kenya.

Previously, he served as Director of the Agricultural Mechanization Research Institute (AMRI) Katumani. There, he developed practical solutions to reduce postharvest losses, improve mechanization, and integrate renewable energy into farming systems. His work also focuses on climate change adaptation, water harvesting, sustainable resource management, and agro-processing.

Dr. Ketiem earned a PhD in Climate Change Adaptation from Egerton University, conducting research on downscaling climate information at the IGAD Climate Prediction and Application Centre (ICPAC). He also holds an M.Phil in Environmental Science from Moi University, with research on crop yield forecasting for food security management.

A strong advocate for youth in agriculture, he promotes youth-led mechanized farming and bridges gaps between young farmers and agri-businesses. He collaborates with national and international partners, including Alliance Bioversity-CIAT, to enhance climate resilience and reduce postharvest losses.

Dr. Ketiem is recognized for his collaborative, results-oriented approach, blending research, technology, and policy to strengthen Kenya’s agricultural sector and empower farmers.
