Dr. Alex Sabuni
Dr. Alex Sabuni is a veterinarian and the current Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute (KEVEVAPI). KEVEVAPI is a government-owned institution mandated to produce safe, effective, and affordable veterinary vaccines for use in Kenya and beyond. In his role, Dr. Sabuni provides strategic and operational leadership, overseeing technical services, production, quality control, research, marketing, and distribution.
With over 19 years of experience, he has worked across government institutions, research, academia, associations, NGOs, and the pharmaceutical sector. Previously, he served as Deputy Director of Technical Services at KEVEVAPI, Chief Veterinary Officer and Monitoring and Evaluation Officer at the Regional Pastoral Livelihoods Resilience Project in Narok County, CEO of the Kenya Veterinary Association, and Livestock Program Coordinator with Samaritan’s Purse International Relief.
Dr. Sabuni holds a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine (University of Nairobi, 2006) and a Master’s in Applied Veterinary Parasitology (University of Nairobi, 2009). He has also completed specialized trainings in dairy and farm management, pandemic preparedness, environmental audits, monitoring and evaluation, and science leadership.
Throughout his career, Dr. Sabuni has focused on integrated pest and drought disaster management, livestock health, and livelihoods protection. He champions antimicrobial resistance mitigation by promoting vaccines as safe alternatives to antibiotics. Recognized with the Veterinarian of the Year Award by the Kenya Veterinary Association, Dr. Sabuni continues to advance veterinary services, safeguard animal and human health, and strengthen Kenya’s livestock sector through innovation, capacity building, and stakeholder collaboration.
