Yatta Beekeepers
Yatta Beekeepers is a Kenya-based apiculture enterprise and social impact organisation focused on advancing beekeeping as a viable livelihood for rural communities, with a strong emphasis on women and youth. Rooted in training, knowledge dissemination and practical field engagement, the organisation promotes sustainable beekeeping as both an agricultural enterprise and a tool for economic empowerment. Its work combines production, education, value addition and market linkage, positioning apiculture as an accessible entry point into agribusiness.
Working closely with local Ministry of Agriculture departments, Yatta Beekeepers supports farmer groups through structured apiculture projects that include farmer training, apiary establishment, hive management, processing and packaging of bee products. The organisation plays a critical role in building local technical capacity by training beekeeping assistants within communities, improving productivity while creating income opportunities through the sale of honey and other bee products. It also registers existing and prospective beekeepers to build a national network that supports collaboration, farmer organisation and sector growth.
Yatta Beekeepers offers a wide range of services including apiary site assessment, on-site and theoretical beekeeping training, consultancy for institutions and community projects, and commercial pollination services for crops such as vegetables and fruits grown in open fields and controlled environments. These services strengthen both primary production and downstream value chains within the apiculture sector.
Beyond production, the organisation implements conservation-driven initiatives such as Adopt-a-Hive, Elephant and Bee conflict mitigation, mangrove and bee integration under the blue economy, and agroforestry through its One Beehive One Tree programme. Together, these initiatives link beekeeping to biodiversity conservation, climate action and resilient rural livelihoods.
