University of Nairobi
The University of Nairobi (UoN) is Kenya’s flagship public university, established by an Act of Parliament (Cap 210 of the Laws of Kenya) and located in Nairobi. It operates across seven campuses and several extra-mural centres, making learning widely accessible. The university has developed strong programmes across sciences, applied sciences, technology, humanities, social sciences, and the arts. Currently, UoN offers about 200 programmes to a student population of over 38,000.
UoN prides itself on highly qualified academic staff and robust research output. Furthermore, it maintains extensive international collaborations, with more than 1,350 partnerships and over 800 student and faculty exchange opportunities. Its research and innovation address local and global challenges, inform policy, and strengthen industry engagement.
Within UoN, the College of Agriculture and Veterinary Sciences (CAVS) is a leading centre for agricultural education, research, and innovation. It trains students through farms, laboratories, and field research. Graduates gain skills in agribusiness, crop and livestock production, environmental management, and veterinary sciences. Key departments include Agricultural Economics, Crop Science, Animal Science, Veterinary Pathology, Microbiology & Parasitology, Food Science, Nutrition & Technology, and Soil Science.
CAVS offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that equip students to drive agricultural transformation and rural development in Kenya and across Africa. Additionally, through teaching, research, and outreach, UoN and CAVS continue to build human capital, advance knowledge, and support sustainable agricultural productivity. Together, they position the university as a major force in shaping the future of African agriculture.
