Tom Mboya University

Tom Mboya University (TMU), chartered in 2022 and located in Homa Bay County, Kenya, is a public institution with origins tracing back to the Maseno University Learning Centre established in 2010. Following extensive consultations between the County Government and Maseno University, TMU was officially established as a university college in 2016 and later awarded full university status through Legal Notice No. 55 in the Kenya Gazette. The university is committed to providing high-quality, knowledge-driven education, research, and community service that addresses local and regional development needs.

The Faculty of Agriculture at TMU is a key pillar in the university’s mission to promote sustainable agricultural development and innovation. The Faculty offers diploma and degree programmes in agriculture alongside related programs in biological, physical, and earth sciences. Students gain practical and theoretical training in crop production, animal husbandry, agribusiness, and natural resource management, integrating modern scientific approaches with hands-on experience.

TMU emphasizes applied learning through state-of-the-art laboratories, research projects, and industrial attachments that prepare students for the emerging knowledge-based economy. Faculty members are actively engaged in professional development and research, supporting community outreach and technology transfer initiatives in agriculture. Students have also excelled in national programs such as the Presidential Digital Talent Program, enhancing their employability and industry readiness.

Through a combination of rigorous academic training, research, and community engagement, Tom Mboya University equips graduates with the skills, knowledge, and innovation capacity required to advance food security, sustainable farming, and agricultural entrepreneurship across Homa Bay County, Kenya, and the wider Eastern African region.
