Taimba Limited

Taimba Limited is a Nairobi-based agri-tech company transforming Kenya’s agricultural supply chain. Founded in 2016–2017 by Dominique and Joan Kavuisya, Taimba connects rural smallholder farmers directly to urban retailers, schools, restaurants, and institutions through a mobile, cashless platform. By bypassing intermediaries, the company increases farmers’ incomes, reduces post-harvest losses, and ensures affordable, fresh produce for urban consumers.

The platform aggregates produce from farmers’ cooperatives and manages order fulfillment, warehousing, and logistics. Farmers receive payments promptly and at prices 20–30% higher than traditional broker rates. Retailers benefit from lower costs, consistent supply, and free delivery to their premises. Taimba specializes in high-demand, perishable crops such as potatoes, onions, carrots, and tomatoes, focusing on products vulnerable to market fluctuations.

Taimba supports farmers with training, cooperative organization, and guidance on best farming practices. Its digital system guarantees traceability from farm to retailer, ensuring food safety and quality. By leveraging technology, Taimba strengthens relationships between producers and buyers, builds trust, and enhances transparency across the supply chain.

The company has received funding from impact investors to expand its logistics, cold-chain storage, and reach to more markets in Nairobi, with plans for nationwide growth. Taimba’s approach creates a sustainable, efficient, and equitable food system, empowering smallholder farmers, reducing waste, and improving urban food access.

Its vision is a sustainable food supply chain with fair value distribution from farm to market, while its mission is to optimize distribution, quality, and pricing in East Africa through innovative, data-driven solutions.
