Sunripe Limited

Sunripe Limited, established by P.K. and Shanti Shah in 1965, is a pioneer in Kenya’s horticultural industry, with a legacy spanning nearly six decades. The company exported its first French beans in 1969, pineapples in 1970, and avocados in 1972, establishing Kenya as a global supplier of premium produce. Today, Sunripe, through its Vertical Agro EPZ division, processes and markets fresh, organic, and frozen fruits and vegetables in over 20 countries worldwide.

Sunripe’s operations are anchored on high-altitude farms in Naivasha and Nakuru, northwest of Nairobi, where ideal growing conditions allow slower plant growth, resulting in vibrant colors and richer flavors. The company maintains a year-round supply by continuously sowing over three million seeds weekly, employing sustainable practices such as sourcing water from underground aquifers rather than rivers or lakes. Many of its farms are certified organic or in conversion.

Outgrower partnerships with large and smallholder farmers across Kenya allow Sunripe to expand its product range, including French beans, peas, corn, herbs, avocados, and more. Technical teams provide training and ensure compliance with Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) and social standards, empowering both farmers and local communities.

Processing is conducted at certified facilities in Limuru and Naivasha, strategically located near transport hubs. A team of 500, mainly women, handles grading, packing, and innovation-driven new product development, ensuring products meet the highest international quality standards.

With decades of expertise, Sunripe combines sustainability, innovation, and social responsibility, delivering premium horticultural produce that balances quality, flavor, nutrition, and ethical production practices.
