SNV Kenya

SNV Netherlands Development Organisation is a global non-profit development organisation that has operated in Kenya since 1967, working across all 47 counties to strengthen sustainable livelihoods and resilient rural economies. The organisation focuses on systemic transformation in agri-food, energy, and water sectors by working with governments, cooperatives, private companies, and community institutions.

In agriculture, SNV supports smallholder farmers to adopt climate-resilient and regenerative farming practices that improve productivity and strengthen market access. Its programmes promote sustainable value chains through improved farm management, soil and water conservation, post-harvest handling, and irrigation efficiency. The organisation also collaborates with national and county governments to create enabling policy environments for resilient agricultural value chains.

SNV works with cooperatives, agribusinesses, and rural enterprises to strengthen governance, technical capacity, and operational systems. These initiatives help farmers and enterprises improve productivity, adopt modern technologies, and connect more effectively to local and regional markets.

The organisation also integrates renewable energy and water management solutions within agricultural systems. Programmes support biodigesters, energy-efficient technologies, and water-smart irrigation approaches that enhance farm productivity while improving environmental sustainability.

Gender equality and youth participation are integrated across SNV programmes. Capacity-building initiatives focus on strengthening local institutions, expanding opportunities for women and youth in agricultural value chains, and improving inclusive service delivery within rural economies.
