Sio Valley Technologies is an East African agri-tech and biotechnology company dedicated to reducing post-harvest losses in horticulture. Founded in 2017, the company tackles a major challenge for farmers and traders: limited access to affordable cold storage.
Instead of relying on cold rooms, Sio Valley Technologies creates natural, room-temperature storage solutions. Its flagship product, KaFresh, is a plant-based, edible spray that extends the shelf life of fruits, vegetables, and flowers. KaFresh forms a thin protective layer on produce, slowing moisture loss, reducing spoilage, and keeping produce fresh longer. It contains four food-grade, non-GMO ingredients and preserves the taste, color, and quality of crops.
KaFresh works across multiple horticultural crops, making it ideal for smallholder farmers, traders, aggregators, and exporters. By eliminating the need for expensive cold storage, Sio Valley lowers costs, reduces food waste, and helps users bring higher-quality produce to markets efficiently.
The company also offers FloriFresh, which protects flowers from spoilage, maintains moisture, and ensures they arrive in excellent condition.
Co-founder Jean-Paul Nageri developed these solutions after witnessing his father lose a banana harvest due to inadequate storage. Today, Sio Valley operates in Kenya and Uganda, combining biotechnology, natural innovation, and practical AgTech solutions.
By providing affordable and sustainable storage methods, Sio Valley Technologies strengthens horticultural value chains, boosts farmer incomes, and supports food security across East Africa.
