Pest Control Products Board (PCPB)

The Pest Control Products Board (PCPB) is Kenya’s statutory authority for regulating pest control products. Established under the Pest Control Products Act (Cap 346 of 1982), PCPB oversees the importation, exportation, manufacture, distribution, sale, and safe use of pesticides. By enforcing strict standards, the Board ensures pesticide safety for humans, crops, livestock, and the environment, promoting sustainable agricultural production.

PCPB regulates pesticide registration, quality assurance, and compliance monitoring across Kenya’s agricultural sector. It inspects manufacturers, distributors, and retailers while enforcing proper labeling of pest control products. Through these efforts, farmers gain access to safe and effective pesticides, enabling improved crop protection and higher productivity.

The Board also addresses environmental protection by reducing contamination risks and managing obsolete chemicals. PCPB aligns national regulations with global conventions, including the Rotterdam Convention, Basel Convention, and Stockholm Convention. These frameworks guide safe handling, storage, and disposal of pest control products.

Public awareness, training, and stakeholder engagement are central to PCPB’s strategy. The Board educates farmers and agribusinesses on pesticide safety, proper use, and compliance with Kenyan and international standards. By combining regulation, education, and enforcement, PCPB strengthens Kenya’s crop protection systems.

PCPB plays a vital role in pesticide regulation in Kenya. Its work safeguards human health, enhances crop protection, ensures environmental sustainability, and supports the long-term growth of the agricultural sector.
