Moi University
Moi University, established in 1984 as Kenya’s second public university, is located in Kesses, Uasin Gishu County, 35 km from Eldoret. The university has grown from 83 students at inception to over 39,000, offering a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across 14 schools, including the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources, re-established in 2014.
The School provides market-driven, solution-oriented programs across four departments: Agriculture and Biotechnology, Animal Science and Management, Natural Resources, and Agricultural Economics & Resource Management. Undergraduate and postgraduate curricula emphasize applied learning, integrating scientific, environmental, and socio-economic perspectives with practical exposure to sustainable farming and resource management. The focus on Agricultural Sustainability equips students with problem-solving skills to address challenges posed by climate change, food security, and agro-industrialization.
Research and innovation are central to the School’s mission. Faculty and students engage in nationally and internationally collaborative projects in crop and animal sciences, biotechnology, and natural resource management. These initiatives are designed to generate actionable solutions for smallholder farmers and agribusinesses, enhancing productivity and environmental stewardship.
Through outreach programs, the School translates research into practice, providing training, demonstrations, and advisory services to communities and industry stakeholders. The university’s integration of ICT and modern teaching technologies further ensures graduates are prepared for the knowledge economy and emerging agricultural technologies.
By combining rigorous academics, applied research, and strong community engagement, Moi University’s School of Agriculture and Natural Resources serves as a hub for agricultural excellence, nurturing innovative professionals ready to drive sustainable development and food security across Kenya and the wider Eastern African region.
