Mlango Farm
Mlango Farm is an organic demonstration and education farm located in Ngecha village, Limuru, about 45 minutes from Nairobi. Established in 2007 on Mundia family land by Els Breet Kamande and her late husband Kamande Njenga (1960–2023), the farm has grown from neglected acreage into a thriving regenerative enterprise. Today, it stands as a model of sustainable agriculture, community engagement, and environmental education in peri-urban Kenya.
The farm cultivates more than 50 varieties of organic vegetables and fruits, supplying fresh produce to Nairobi through direct deliveries and curated baskets. However, Mlango Farm is more than a production unit. It is a living classroom that welcomes families, schools, corporates, and volunteers for farm visits, team-building sessions, and hands-on agricultural training. Through the Mlango Farm Foundation, thousands of schoolchildren learn about soil health, food systems, and environmental stewardship.
Guided by the 5R principle,Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rot,the farm integrates circular practices such as composting, biogas cooking, and Ecobrick construction. It also operates as a House of Artemisia and promotes regenerative land management. In addition, the farm blends agriculture with art, hosting creative exhibitions and cultural exchanges within its rural setting.
Mlango Farm trades under Ngecha Organics Limited and continues to pioneer organic vegetable production in Kenya. With ongoing projects such as a natural forest playground, the farm seeks to expand access to nature-based learning for future generations while strengthening local livelihoods.
