Meru University of Science & Technology

Meru University of Science and Technology (MUST) is a public university located approximately 15 km from Meru town along the Meru-Maua road in Meru County, Kenya. The university traces its origins to the early 1960s, when the Njuri Ncheke, the council of elders of the Meru community, envisioned an institution of higher learning to empower the youth with technical and professional skills. MUST was formally established in 2008 as Meru College of Technology (MECOTECH), became a constituent college of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology, and was awarded a full charter as a university in 2013.

The School of Agriculture and Food Sciences (SAFS) at MUST is composed of three departments: Agriculture, Animal Sciences, and Food Sciences. The school provides undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate programs aimed at equipping students with practical skills, cutting-edge agricultural technologies, and research capabilities to address Kenya’s food security challenges. SAFS integrates experiential learning through on-campus demonstration farms, livestock facilities, aquaculture ponds, beehives, and industrial farm visits.

MUST emphasizes innovation, research, and community engagement. Faculty members are actively involved in applied research, contributing to sustainable agriculture, environmental conservation, and technological solutions aligned with Kenya’s Big Four Agenda and Vision 2030.

MUST’s mission is to provide quality education, training, and research in science, technology, and innovation, while its vision is to nurture globally competitive, skilled graduates. The university fosters holistic student development through vibrant campus life, sports, innovation hubs, and international collaborations, producing graduates ready to drive socio-economic transformation in Kenya and beyond.
