Lowland Vegetables
Lowland Vegetables is a 750-hectare commercial farm located in Naivasha, in Kenya’s Rift Valley. Specializing in high-value horticultural crops for both export and local markets, the farm employs advanced mechanization and irrigation to maximize efficiency and crop quality. Using center-pivot irrigation, Lowland Vegetables grows French beans, garden peas, tender stem broccoli, and courgettes primarily for export to major British supermarket chains, including Sainsbury, Waitrose, and Tesco. The farm also produces potatoes, cabbage, and cereals for domestic consumption, with cabbage production making it one of Kenya’s largest independent suppliers.
Mechanization is central to operations, reducing manual labor for the farm’s 400 employees and enhancing safety in pesticide application. Crops are mechanically planted, weeded, and sprayed using precision equipment, minimizing chemical usage while maintaining high standards demanded by international markets. Integrated crop management and scouting ensure optimal plant health and yield.
Lowland Vegetables emphasizes sustainable practices, including minimal reliance on synthetic fertilizers and crop rotations that incorporate legumes and high-biomass brassicas to enrich soils naturally. Harvested produce is immediately transported to the farm’s cold storage facility and packhouse, with export vegetables reaching European shelves within 36 hours, preserving freshness and quality.
The farm’s combination of technology, sustainable practices, and efficient logistics allows it to consistently deliver premium produce to international markets while supporting Kenya’s domestic vegetable and cereal supply. Through innovation, mechanization, and careful farm management, Lowland Vegetables has established itself as a leading force in East Africa’s horticultural and vegetable production sector.
