Kitil Farm
Kitil Farm is a licensed open quarantine and biotechnology-driven nursery in Isinya, Kenya, led by Juvenales Njuguna. The farm specializes in high-quality bamboo seedlings, tissue culture crops, and tree seedlings for commercial and environmental purposes. Kitil Farm produces tissue culture plantlets of pyrethrum, banana (William, Grand Nain, FHIA 17, FHIA 18, Farari, Kisii Ng’ombe, Nusu Ng’ombe), coffee (Ruiru 11), pineapple, vanilla, and tissue culture potatoes. Micropropagation of pyrethrum is also offered.
The farm maintains bamboo nurseries with over ten economically important species, including Oxytenanthera abyssinica, Bambusa longinternode, Phyllostachys pubescens (moso), Dendrocalamus spp., and Fargesia spp. These species are approved for plantation in Kenya and align with INBAR and UNEP recommendations.
Kitil Farm actively rehabilitates degraded land and establishes bamboo plantations. Bamboo from the farm supports construction, charcoal, paper pulp, handicrafts, medicinal products, edible shoots, and biomass energy. Bamboo also protects soil, filters water, and captures carbon.
The farm trains investors, farmers, NGOs, and government agencies on bamboo care, management, harvesting, and value addition. It has successfully partnered on large bamboo projects across Africa and beyond.
