Kenya National Farmers’ Federation (KENAFF)

The Kenya National Farmers’ Federation (KENAFF) is the national umbrella body representing farmers in Kenya. It was founded in 1946 in Nakuru as the Kenya National Farmers Union. Today, it serves as the country’s official National Farmers’ Organization. KENAFF is non-political, not-for-profit, and membership-based. Its main role is to represent and protect farmers’ interests through advocacy, policy engagement, and empowerment. Therefore, it acts as the unified voice of farmers under the motto “Sauti ya Mkulima.”

The federation operates through structures at ward, sub-county, county, and national levels. In addition, it has three National Councils for Youth, Women, and Commodities. These councils ensure inclusive representation. Governance is provided by County Boards, the National Farmers Assembly, and the Annual General Meeting. Meanwhile, the secretariat manages daily operations and implements programs across all 47 counties.

KENAFF offers practical services to its members. For example, it provides capacity building, technical advice, and market support. It also links farmers to credit and financial institutions. Furthermore, the federation promotes the adoption of modern farming practices and innovations.

Its membership includes smallholder farmers, cooperatives, commodity associations, and farmer-owned enterprises. Currently, KENAFF represents about 1.6 million farm families nationwide.

Through strong advocacy and partnerships, KENAFF continues to support agricultural growth, improve farmer incomes, and strengthen food and nutrition security in Kenya.
