Kenya Coffee Traders Association (KCTA)
The Kenya Coffee Traders Association (KCTA) was established on 17th April 2002 under the Societies Act, following changes to the Coffee Act, to represent and strengthen the Kenyan coffee trade. Since its founding, KCTA has built a reputation as a professional, trusted, and influential voice for coffee value chain actors, including millers, dealers, warehousemen, roasters, financiers, and equipment suppliers. Through sustained engagement with statutory bodies such as the Coffee Directorate, Nairobi Coffee Exchange, and Coffee Research Institute, the association has fostered industry-wide collaboration and promoted responsible business practices.
KCTA’s work focuses on advocacy, capacity building, and market development. It represents member interests in national policy discussions, supports initiatives to improve quality and efficiency across the coffee value chain, and promotes Kenyan coffee in both domestic and international markets. The association also plays a central role in training and mentorship, partnering with Dedan Kimathi University of Technology to provide internships, hands-on experience, and professional development for emerging coffee experts.
In addition, KCTA hosts major industry events such as the Kenya National Barista Championship and African coffee conferences, which stimulate quality improvement, domestic consumption, and public engagement with Kenyan coffee. Its role as an In-Country Partner for the Coffee Quality Institute ensures impartial grading and certification, maintaining high standards that protect both farmers and buyers.
Through its integrated approach, combining advocacy, training, market facilitation, and quality assurance, KCTA strengthens the Kenyan coffee industry, enhances producer incomes, and positions Kenyan coffee as a premium product on the global stage. The association continues to champion sustainable practices, promote trade efficiency, and safeguard the long-term growth of the sector
