ISAAA Africenter

The International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications (ISAAA) AfriCenter is a nonprofit organization that promotes the adoption and use of agricultural biotechnology across Africa. It was established to provide information, research support, and capacity-building services that help smallholder farmers access modern agricultural technologies. ISAAA AfriCenter focuses on improving food security, increasing crop productivity, and promoting sustainable farming practices.

ISAAA AfriCenter operates in several African countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, and Ghana. The organization works closely with research institutions, governments, private sector actors, and farmer organizations to disseminate biotechnology innovations. Its programs cover crops such as maize, cassava, bananas, and rice, helping farmers improve yields and reduce losses due to pests and diseases.

In addition to technology transfer, ISAAA AfriCenter provides training and awareness programs. It equips farmers, policymakers, and extension workers with knowledge about biotechnology, biosafety, and regulatory frameworks. By doing so, the organization ensures that agricultural innovations are adopted safely, responsibly, and effectively.

Moreover, ISAAA AfriCenter promotes collaboration between scientists, farmers, and industry stakeholders. It facilitates partnerships that strengthen agricultural research, improve seed availability, and expand market access for smallholder farmers. The organization also contributes to policy development by providing evidence-based advice to support sustainable agricultural growth.

Through its initiatives, ISAAA AfriCenter enhances food security, supports rural livelihoods, and empowers communities with modern agricultural solutions. By combining research, technology transfer, and capacity building, the organization helps Africa’s farmers adopt innovations that increase productivity and promote long-term agricultural sustainability.
