International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC)

The International Fertilizer Development Center (IFDC) Kenya is part of a global, independent non-profit organization committed to improving food security through better soil health and plant nutrition. Operating across Kenya, IFDC works with governments, research institutions, agribusinesses, and farmer groups to promote sustainable agricultural practices that enhance productivity from the ground up.

Smallholder farmers in Kenya face challenges such as declining soil fertility, climate variability, and limited access to quality inputs. International Fertilizer Development Center addresses these by promoting balanced fertilizer use, integrated soil fertility management, and climate-smart practices. The organization also strengthens agricultural markets, helping farmers access quality inputs and profitable outlets for their produce.

In addition, IFDC supports policy development and regulatory frameworks for fertilizer quality and responsible nutrient management. It provides technical assistance and capacity-building to both public and private actors, encouraging private-sector growth and innovation in the agricultural inputs industry. IFDC also promotes youth and women’s participation in agribusiness through training, enterprise development, and value chain support.

IFDC Kenya’s work aligns with national food security priorities and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those on ending hunger, fostering sustainable production, and enhancing climate resilience. By bridging research, policy, and markets, IFDC delivers practical, scalable solutions that improve soil health, increase farm productivity, and strengthen rural livelihoods. Its science-driven, locally tailored approach makes it a key partner in Kenya’s agricultural transformation.
