Farming Systems Kenya (FSK)

Farming Systems Kenya (FSK) is an indigenous non-governmental organization dedicated to improving livelihoods through sustainable agricultural development. Founded in 1981 through the initiative of the Africa Inland Church’s Nakuru Lay People Fellowship, FSK focuses on empowering smallholder farmers, who make up the majority of Kenya’s farming population.

The organization works closely with rural communities, including farmers, agro-pastoralists, and pastoralists. It provides technical training, extension services, and access to affordable credit. These interventions equip farmers with the skills and resources needed to improve productivity, increase incomes, and strengthen food security.

FSK applies a holistic approach through its Value Extension Service (VES) model, which supports the entire agricultural value chain, from production to processing and marketing. The organization promotes climate-smart agriculture, conservation farming, and agroforestry, helping farmers adapt to climate change while protecting natural resources.

The organization’s programs cover agribusiness development, water and sanitation, disaster risk reduction, and microenterprise support. FSK has improved access to safe water for thousands of households and strengthened community resilience during droughts. Through its farmer groups, it enables value addition, joint marketing, and cooperative learning, helping farmers transition from subsistence to commercial agriculture.

FSK also invests in natural resource management. It encourages tree planting, soil restoration, and sustainable grazing practices that enhance environmental conservation and community resilience. By combining training, mentorship, and practical support, the organization helps farmers turn their farms into profitable and sustainable enterprises.

Operating across counties such as Nakuru, Baringo, West Pokot, Narok, Bomet, Kakamega, and Laikipia, Farming Systems Kenya (FSK) envisions vibrant, profitable, and sustainable farming communities. Through long-term partnerships and experience, FSK continues to transform rural livelihoods and build resilient agricultural systems across Kenya.
