Farm Africa
Farm Africa is an international non-profit organisation that promotes sustainable agriculture to improve livelihoods across rural Africa. Founded in 1985, the organisation works closely with smallholder farmers, agribusinesses, and communities to increase productivity, strengthen market access, and protect natural resources. Its approach recognises that agriculture is central to food security, economic growth, and environmental sustainability.
The organisation operates mainly in eastern Africa, including Kenya, Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda, where it supports farmers working in diverse ecosystems. These range from arid lands to forest and coastal regions. Through strong partnerships, Farm Africa helps farmers increase the quality, quantity, and value of their produce. As a result, households achieve more stable incomes and improved food security.
In addition, Farm Africa focuses on building inclusive and resilient agricultural systems. It supports farmers with access to finance, inputs, and reliable markets. At the same time, it promotes climate-smart agriculture, regenerative practices, and sustainable land management. These efforts ensure that productivity growth does not come at the expense of the environment. Moreover, the organisation places strong emphasis on women and youth, unlocking entrepreneurship and employment opportunities across agricultural value chains.
Farm Africa also works to strengthen market systems and agribusiness development. It collaborates with cooperatives, small enterprises, and private sector partners to improve supply chains and expand market opportunities. Furthermore, it supports environmentally responsible practices such as forest conservation, soil restoration, and ecosystem management. This integrated approach allows farming communities to build long-term resilience against climate and economic shocks.
By combining technical expertise, partnerships, and practical field solutions, Farm Africa continues to drive sustainable agricultural development across the region. Its commitment to innovation, inclusivity, and environmental stewardship positions it as a key player in transforming Africa’s agricultural sector and improving rural livelihoods.
