Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC)

The Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC) strengthens grain trade and market access across Eastern Africa. It connects producers, traders, and processors through Village Aggregation Centers, now upgraded to Grain Business Hubs. These hubs aggregate grain in bulk, store it in certified warehouses, and channel it to buyers using the G-Soko trade platform. In addition, EAGC provides real-time market data on prices, stocks, cross-border trade, and climate through the Regional Agricultural Trade Intelligence Network (RATIN).

The Council tackles challenges that affect the grain sector. Low productivity, poor storage, limited market access, high transaction costs, and fragmented regional trade reduce farmers’ incomes. To address these issues, EAGC promotes structured trading, supports policy reforms, and facilitates capacity-building programs. Its Grain Business Institute (GBI) offers training, consultancy, and research to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and foster innovation.

EAGC membership includes producers, traders, processors, affiliated organizations, and associates. Members gain trade linkages, market information, arbitration services, financial support, and networking opportunities. They also access updates on new technologies and best practices.

Through these initiatives, EAGC increases market access and profitability for smallholder farmers. It strengthens regional grain markets, supports sustainable production, and enhances food security. By promoting collaboration and evidence-based policies, the Council empowers stakeholders to participate in a competitive, efficient, and resilient grain trade system.
