EAGC Grain Business Institute (EAGC-GBI)

EAGC Grain Business Institute (EAGC-GBI) is the specialized training and capacity-building arm of the Eastern Africa Grain Council (EAGC). Established to strengthen the grain sector across Eastern Africa, the institute delivers research, consultancy, technical advisory, mentorship, apprenticeship training, and capacity-building services to stakeholders across the grain value chain. EAGC-GBI plays a critical role in developing skilled professionals, supporting innovation, and enhancing operational efficiency while reducing transactional costs in grain production, processing, and trade.

The institute’s mandate focuses on identifying and addressing capacity gaps across the grain value chain. Through collaborative design of training programs, research initiatives, and consultancy services, EAGC-GBI ensures that farmers, traders, processors, input suppliers, and value chain facilitators gain the knowledge and skills required to meet regional market standards. By promoting the adoption of best practices, improved grain quality, and compliance with technical regulations, the institute strengthens intra-regional grain trade and guarantees optimum returns for all stakeholders.

EAGC-GBI offers a variety of capacity-building programs, including professional training workshops, hands-on apprenticeship programs, and research-driven consultancy projects. Its initiatives are guided by a mission to impart knowledge, promote best practices, and ensure compliance with food safety standards. The institute envisions becoming a recognized center of excellence in grain trade and capacity development in Eastern Africa.

Through its work, EAGC-GBI continues to transform the grain sector by fostering innovation, enhancing competitiveness, and creating a structured, efficient regional trading system that benefits farmers, businesses, and regional markets.
