Dairy Training Institute Naivasha (DTI)

Dairy Training Institute (DTI), Naivasha is a government institution under the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development, located in Naivasha Sub-County, Nakuru County, approximately 100 km northwest of Nairobi. Established in 1963 with support from UNICEF, DTI was originally a dairy training school and later transformed into an Agricultural Training College in 1983 to expand its role in training skilled personnel for the dairy sector. Over its six decades of service, the institute has trained over 25,000 students and continues to contribute significantly to capacity building across the dairy value chain.

The institute offers a range of programs, including a Diploma in Dairy Production and Processing, Certificate courses in Dairy Technology and Management, and Dairy Production and Management, as well as Artisan courses in Dairy Plant and Dairy Farm Management. Additionally, DTI provides short modular courses on milk value addition, climate-smart dairy production, feed formulation, cheese making, and ice-cream and chocolate processing. The institute also engages in consultancy and collaborative research projects, advancing innovations that enhance efficiency and productivity in the dairy industry.

DTI’s mission is to deliver quality training, research, consultancy, and outreach in dairy production, value addition, quality control, technology adoption, marketing, and entrepreneurship. Its vision is to be a regional center of excellence in dairy capacity building, producing professionals who drive sustainable growth and innovation across the dairy subsector.
