Cereal Growers Association (CGA)

The Cereal Growers Association (CGA) is a national non-profit, member-based farmer organization incorporated in August 1996. Initially founded as the Wheat Growers Association, it rebranded to CGA in 2000 and was formally registered in 2009. Its mission is to provide farmers with agribusiness solutions through advocacy, technology, innovations, and partnerships, while its vision is to be a leading agribusiness solutions provider in Kenya.

CGA operates across 31 counties, covering all main cereal-growing regions of Kenya, serving over 620,000 farmers through a network of more than 4,000 farmer groups. Its headquarters is in Nairobi, led by a Chief Executive Officer and a board of trustees, with over 100 staff including Agribusiness Coordinators stationed in the counties.

The Association delivers services through four pillars: Representation, Technical, Economic, and Information Services. Representation services include lobbying and advocacy for policies favorable to cereal farmers. Technical services provide extension and advisory support, including learning centers, demo farms, field days, and trade fairs. Economic services help farmers access markets, finance, and inputs, while Information Services offer publications such as The Sower Magazine and The CerealNoteBook, supporting data-driven farm management.

CGA implements numerous projects in partnership with government, development partners, and private sector actors. Notable interventions include Farm to Market Alliance (FtMA), STRAC, TRANS-AGRI, SMAPIP, Kenya Agribooster Project, Acorn-Agroforestry, and CSV Maize, addressing productivity, market access, climate resilience, and youth and women inclusion.

Through its Farmer Service Centers (FSCs), CGA links smallholders to markets, mechanisation, advisory services, and financial solutions. Its work strengthens collective action, improves livelihoods, and promotes sustainable cereal and pulse farming in Kenya.
