Bukura Agricultural College

Bukura Agricultural College (BAC) is a premier agricultural training institution in Kenya with a long history of empowering students and communities through practical agricultural education. Originating in 1974 as the Bukura Institute under the Ministry of Agriculture, the institution initially offered certificate courses in agriculture. In 1992, it was upgraded to award Diploma courses and renamed Bukura Agricultural College. Following the Bukura Agricultural College Act, Cap. 348 of 1999, BAC became a state corporation under the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation, cementing its status as a key player in agricultural education and development.

The college’s mandate is “to provide agricultural training through the integration of research and extension”, reflecting its holistic approach to teaching, innovation, and community service. BAC offers diverse programs across departments including Animal Health and Production, Crop Science, Agricultural Education and Community Development, and Biological, Physical and Applied Sciences. Students gain hands-on experience through applied research, industrial attachments, and extension services that directly benefit Kenya’s agricultural sector.

BAC is guided by strong core values, including professionalism, accountability, efficiency, inclusiveness, innovation, teamwork, and environmental sensitivity. These principles underpin the institution’s commitment to producing skilled, ethical, and responsive graduates ready to contribute to agricultural productivity and sustainable livelihoods.

The college emphasizes quality assurance, customer focus, and continuous improvement, ensuring that training, research, and extension services meet the evolving needs of students, farmers, and agribusiness stakeholders. With its well-equipped facilities, experienced faculty, and focus on practical skills, BAC remains a leading institution for middle-level agricultural education and innovation in Kenya.
