British American Tobacco Kenya

British American Tobacco Kenya(BAT Kenya) is a Kenyan consumer goods company and part of the British American Tobacco Group. The company began operations in 1907 and listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange in 1969. BAT Kenya operates across several stages of the tobacco value chain. These include tobacco leaf sourcing, cigarette manufacturing, and product distribution.

BAT Kenya works with about 2,000 contracted tobacco farmers. Most of these farmers are located in Migori and Bungoma counties. The company provides agronomic support through field technicians and agronomists. These teams advise farmers on crop management, soil care, and crop rotation. Farmers also receive certified maize seeds to support food production alongside tobacco cultivation. In addition, BAT Kenya links farmers to crop insurance, partner loan facilities, and Savings and Credit Cooperative Organizations (SACCOs).

BAT Kenya operates a cigarette manufacturing plant in Nairobi. It also runs a Green Leaf Threshing facility in Thika. These facilities process tobacco leaf and manufacture products for regional markets. The Nairobi factory supplies more than 18 BAT markets across East and Southern Africa.

The company distributes finished products through wholesalers, distributors, and retail outlets across Kenya and export markets. BAT Kenya also produces tobacco-free modern oral nicotine pouches as part of its nicotine product range. The company states that these products target adult nicotine users and follow Kenyan regulations and BAT marketing rules that restrict sales to persons under 18 years.

BAT Kenya directly employs more than 400 people and supports over 80,000 individuals across its supply chain.
