Agricultural Information Resource Centre (AIRC)

The Agricultural Information Resource Centre (AIRC) is a Semi-Autonomous Government Agency under Kenya’s Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development. Established in 1966, AIRC serves as the country’s central hub for agricultural knowledge, information, and skills. Its primary mandate is to collect, process, and disseminate agricultural information to farmers, extension officers, and other stakeholders across the crop, livestock, fisheries, irrigation, and research subsectors.

AIRC enhances agricultural productivity and food security by translating research, field data, and market insights into practical guidance. It manages a wide range of services including library and documentation resources, mass media production, video and radio programs, publications, and digital content for knowledge transfer. These resources are tailored to meet the evolving needs of farmers and agribusinesses, ensuring adoption of climate-smart, efficient, and sustainable farming practices.

The centre also focuses on capacity building. Through training programs, workshops, and extension support, AIRC equips extension officers and other agricultural stakeholders with skills in communication, ICT, and advisory services. Additionally, it offers conferencing, accommodation, and catering facilities to support training and stakeholder engagement activities.

AIRC operates a revolving fund to sustain its commercial and outreach activities, enabling continuous service delivery across Kenya. Its collaborative approach includes partnerships with research institutes, universities, county governments, NGOs, and private sector players, ensuring that information is both locally relevant and actionable.

By linking knowledge, technology, and practice, the Agricultural Information Resource Centre strengthens Kenya’s agricultural systems. It empowers farmers, supports informed decision-making, and contributes to improved livelihoods and resilient food systems nationwide.
