AgDevCo East Africa

AgDevCo is a specialist impact investor focused on building sustainable agribusinesses across sub-Saharan Africa through long-term debt and equity financing. Established in 2009 and headquartered in the United Kingdom, the organisation invests in early-stage and growth-stage agricultural enterprises with the aim of strengthening commercial agriculture while delivering measurable social and environmental impact.

AgDevCo provides patient capital typically ranging from US$3 million to US$15 million to agribusinesses involved in agricultural production, processing, storage, and distribution. The organisation also offers working capital facilities and technical assistance to help companies strengthen operations, expand production capacity, and improve value chain efficiency. In addition to financing, AgDevCo works closely with investee companies by providing strategic guidance, agronomic expertise, and support in governance, risk management, and environmental and social standards.

Across its investment portfolio, the organisation promotes business models that integrate smallholder farmers into commercial supply chains. Through outgrower schemes, supplier networks, and market linkages, AgDevCo-supported enterprises provide small-scale producers with access to inputs, extension services, and stable markets for agricultural products.

AgDevCo operates in multiple African countries including Kenya, where it has invested in companies involved in sectors such as aquaculture, horticulture, poultry, and nut processing. These investments support the development of commercially viable agricultural enterprises while creating employment opportunities and strengthening rural economies.

The organisation manages more than US$300 million in agricultural investments and works with development finance institutions and impact investors to expand capital flows into Africa’s agribusiness sector. Its investment strategy emphasises responsible environmental, social, and governance practices while supporting inclusive agricultural growth.
