Africa Agriculture & Trade Investment Fund (AATIF)
The Africa Agriculture & Trade Investment Fund (AATIF) is a public‑private investment fund focused on supporting agribusiness throughout Africa. Its goal is to boost food security, increase incomes, and strengthen value chains for farmers, enterprises, and workers.
AATIF finances agricultural operations from farm production through processing to trade and export. It supports small, medium, and large farms, cooperatives, processing companies, and input suppliers. Investments also extend to local financial institutions that on‑lend to smaller agribusinesses.
The fund provides financing mainly through senior debt and mezzanine loans. Depending on project size and risk, it may offer relatively long-term financing, sometimes up to 10–12 years.
AATIF also runs a Technical Assistance facility. This facility supports investee companies by helping them build management capacity, adopt better practices, and meet social and environmental standards. This ensures investments have sustainable development impact beyond just capital.
Since its inception in 2011, AATIF has invested in dozens of agribusinesses across Africa. Its portfolio includes commercial farms, input suppliers, processors, and financial intermediaries. Through these investments, many enterprises have expanded capacity, improved processing or storage, and helped stabilize supply chains.
Because of its broad mandate and value‑chain approach, AATIF represents a strong potential financing partner for agribusinesses in Kenya or East Africa. By combining patient capital, structured financing, and capacity-building support, the fund enables enterprises to grow while contributing to food security, value addition, and rural livelihoods across Africa.
